Our Current Projects
IGM Baby Home
After many years of requests coming from local officials and people within the community, IGM extended their mission by opening an infant home for babies and toddlers up to 5 years old. This is great news, allowing siblings up to 18 years old to be together on campus. Read more about our IGM Baby Home on our Hi From Chennai newsletter. IGM will start receiving up to 25 babies but are licensed for 50. They will also be accredited for adoption services, which will open up more doors of hope.
IGM Woman's Dormitory
At 18 years old, IGM girls can no longer live at the children’s home. These girls who may be in higher education or working at a first job must find new living arrangements. This can be daunting, since safe living options and support systems for orphans don’t exist. IGM has identified a building near their Guduvancheri campus that will provide a safe home for 40 women. Emergency Open Shelter
IGM operates an Emergency Open Shelter on their Guduvancheri campus. This shelter serves as the first stop for abused or abandoned girls, offering immediate medical care and counseling. Once they are mentally and emotionally ready, the girls either return to their families or continue to live at IGM.
Women’s Empowerment Tailoring Program
IGM remains committed to women’s rights ensuring all the girls have access to education and later the ability to learn marketable skills through higher education and vocational training. Women who participate in the Tailoring Program undergo three months of training, after which they can secure tailoring jobs in the local area. Currently, the students are crafting jute bags, which are sold to nearby businesses, generating income for the school.
